Building More Than Shop Skills

Every shop class has tools and projects. Those things matter, but they aren't what define VoSKILL. What matters is what happens when a kid picks up a tool, tries something they haven't done before, makes a mistake, figures it out, and realizes, “I can do this.”

That's why VoSKILL exists. We teach kids practical shop skills, but the bigger goal is helping them discover what they're capable of.

Our Mission

Our mission is simple: Kingdom work through training and tools.

Kids learn how to measure, cut, drill, sand, build, and solve problems with their hands. Along the way, they're also learning how to listen, take responsibility, work through frustration, and finish what they started. The project they take home matters. What they learn about themselves while building it matters even more.

Built Around Doing

Kids learn differently when they get to use their hands. At VoSKILL, they don't just watch someone else build. They pick up the tools and do the work themselves. They'll make mistakes. That's part of it. We want them to learn how to recognize the problem, correct it, and try again. That's where confidence comes from.

More Than a Project

A finished project is easy to see. Some of the most important things being built aren't. Confidence. Independence. Problem solving. Responsibility. The willingness to try something difficult instead of immediately saying, “I can't.”

We don't expect every kid who comes through VoSKILL to go into the trades. We do want every kid to leave knowing a little more about what they're good at and what they're capable of.

The Values That Guide Us

Everything we do is shaped by three core values: Respect, Accountability, and Servant Leadership.

Respect means how we treat people, tools, and the shop.

Accountability means taking responsibility for your work, your attitude, and your mistakes.

Servant Leadership means using what you know to help the people around you.

They're not just words on the walls. They're expectations in the shop.

Kingdom Work Through Training and Tools

Faith has always been part of the foundation of VoSKILL. We believe every kid has God-given abilities worth discovering and developing. Sometimes they just need the opportunity to try something they haven't tried before.

Our job isn't to decide who they're going to become. It's to put tools in their hands, teach them well, challenge them, encourage them, and give them room to discover what they're capable of.

That's what we mean by Kingdom work through training and tools.
