Water & Electric Emergencies for First-Time Homeowners and Renters
You hear it before you see it—drip… drip… drip.
Water’s pooling under the fridge, or maybe the toilet’s overflowing thanks to a toddler’s plastic log. The power just went out, and you’re not sure if it’s the whole house or just the kitchen.
Panic sets in. What do you do first?
This class is your calm in the chaos.
In this hands-on micro class, you’ll learn how to shut off water and electricity in an emergency—fast—and how to safely turn it back on once the crisis is under control.
We’ll show you:
How to locate and operate key shut-off valves behind toilets, under sinks, and near appliances
What a GFCI outlet is, where to find it, and how to reset it
When and how to check the breaker panel for a tripped circuit
How to safely slide out appliances (like dishwashers and washers) to access hidden shut-offs
What tools (if any) you may need—usually just a flashlight and your hands (we’ll provide them)
This class is a 60/40 mix of hands-on practice and demonstration, designed for anyone who’s never dealt with water or power issues on their own.
No experience? No tools? No problem.
You’ll leave knowing how to stop a small disaster before it becomes a big one—and how to walk your home with confidence, not confusion.
Tools provided for in-class use.
Includes our “Emergency Shut-Off Checklist” to take home.
